Scotland May 2008

Eleven days beginning at Newtonmore making a repeat visit to the Strathspey Mountain Hostel and using mixed cycle and walking mode to bag the three Munros of A Chailleach, Sgulain and Carn Dearg.

From Newtonmore I headed further North to take in Ben Wyvis making a more thorough exploration than usual to take in the Yeaman of Glas Leathad Beag as well as the Munro. After crossing the open moor back to the carpark near Garbat I headed on to the Altguish Inn to use that as a base for Am Faochagach and Carn Gorm-loch. My descent from these using a little used old stalkers path that now leads only to the shores of Loch Vaich.

Another mixed mode day saw me cycle up the private road from Grudie Bridge to Fannich lodge to follow the stalkers path up into the clouds on Meal Garm and An Coileachan. This was the poorest day weather-wise of the trip with low cloud down to 600m. From the Fannichs I went on to Glen Carron again making use of the pre-positioned bike at the end of the day to return to the car at Craig after climbing Sgurr nan Ceannaichean and Moruisg.
 

Then two days based at the bothy in Coire Fionnaraich. Day one walking over into the top of Coire Lair to Sgoor Ruadh and Fuar Tholl and day two for Maol Chean-dearg before heading to camp at Stathfillan near Crianlarich and next day walking up the seemingly impossible North-east ridge of Beinn Chabhair.
